The Three Crucial Documents

  1. The Cover Letter gives a little more insight into who you are and what you bring to the table.

  2. The Resume will either get you the interview or not.

  3. A respectful and well written Thank You Note will keep you in the hiring manager's thoughts as he/she makes the final decision and shows your enthusiasm for the job.

These three documents can land you your dream job.

01

Cover Letter

Writing an application

Cover letters are not always required however, many hiring managers rely on them to gauge an applicant's skills, experience and background. This is a great opportunity for you to go into detail and clearly showcase how your professional experience fits the needs of the open role and the culture of the hiring company so highlight your skills, achievements an well as your experience concerning the position you are seeking.  A well-written cover letter has the potential to impress employers and set you apart from other applicants. It is usually 3-4 paragraphs.

02

Resume

Recruiters spend less than 6 seconds reviewing a resume to pass along the a hiring manager.

Review the job description, understand the key words they are looking for and research the company so you can tailor your resume for that particular role.  A resume is not a one size fits all.  The same resume cannot be sent to all the jobs you are interested in.  Make sure to customize your resume for each job.

Thank You Email

Typing on laptop

Sending a (follow up) formal thank you email after an interview shows your gratitude and appreciation to the interviewer for the consideration they have shown you.  You are also building your professional relationships and network which can prove to be beneficial in your career development later on.  Lastly, the  formal thank-you email reminds the interviewer(s) (one of them could be a hiring manager) of who you are and may potentially create opportunities for future, further communication.
