Values

Values are core beliefs and principles that guide and shape our behavior, decisions, and preferences in life and work.

Understanding your values is crucial in making career choices that align with your authentic self and promote personal fulfillment and satisfaction.

Values can help you decide...

  • Which career path aligns with your passions, interests, and long-term goals, leading to a more fulfilling and meaningful work life

  • Whether you should start your own business

  • If you should follow tradition, or travel down your own path

  • Whether you should accept the promotion based on factors like work-life balance, increased responsibilities, and alignment with your long-term goals

  • Whether you should compromise, or be firm with your principles

  • You may value your time off to pursue other interests

INTERESTS

Do you like to travel?

How about working out?

Perhaps eating healthy?

Draw, paint, design, like to build, take things apart?

Interests are what you gravitate towards, and would often times choose to spend your free time doing.

You can also choose a career based on your interests.

Needs

Assessing and understanding your needs (along with your values) will help you gain a clearer sense of purpose and direction as you pursue your career.

Your needs may be financial.  You may decide on your career path based on your financial needs.

Your needs may sometimes overlap with your values.

Take TIME for example.  You value your time to pursue other interests but you also need your time to pursue those interests.

GOALS

Career goals should be well-defined statements explaining the profession that you intend to pursue throughout your career.

It is important for you to define your career goals clearly. It will help you come up with your personal career strategy and action plan.

For example, a career goal could be:

"Obtain a project management certification within the next six months."

Skills
